Accommodation Restriction Clarification for Myrtle Beach

A MESSAGE FROM MBPD CHIEF AMY PROCK

Good afternoon everyone,

Recently, we have all seen and read the executive order, that for the most part, restricts and prohibits lodging and rentals. This has been interpreted by some members of the hospitality association to believe it is prohibited for them to employ members of their respective businesses, to maintain upkeep, safety, and security over their properties. The executive order does not prohibit any individual, entity, or establishment from providing Lodging to the following:

  • Individuals operating commercial vehicles transporting essential goods and products:

    •  Food

    • Water

    • Medicine

    • Medical supplies and equipment

    • Fuels and petroleum products (to include fuel oil, diesel oil, gasoline, kerosene, propane, and liquid petroleum)

    • Livestock

    • Poultry

    • Feed for livestock and poultry

    • Crops and other agricultural products ready to be harvested (to include timber and wood chips)

  • Individuals employed by airlines; and individuals otherwise engaged in commercial transportation activities.

  • Individuals performing or assisting with:

    • Military

    • Healthcare

    • Public safety

    • Emergency response operations

    • As well as any other operations or services identified by the United States Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency in its March 28, 2020 Memorandum.

  • Any future amendments or supplements thereto, as essential to continued critical infrastructure viability.

The Myrtle Beach Police Department understands that having employees on property for the purposes of maintenance, safety, and security is an essential function to lodging and rental properties, as well as making available lodging and rentals available to those individuals identified in the executive order as being exceptions to the executive order. Moreover, it is recommended that commercial lodging and rental property owners and managers continue to maintain vigilance with daily operations that protect their properties accordingly. The Myrtle Beach Police Department recognizes that there are not enough police officers to stand guard over each and every lodging and rental property within the city limits throughout the day and night, and further understands that the shared responsibility of community safety is a partnership inclusive of all, businesses and the police department alike.

The Myrtle Beach Police Department is ready and available to address any concerns that property owners and managers may need should they see something suspicious about their respective properties, be it suspicious persons, or activities.

We are #MyrtleBeachStrong.

Be smart, be safe, and we will get through this together.
