We’re putting the final touches on the holiday leisure campaign which will be primarily digital advertising and public relations targeted towards regional and out of state markets. Creative features spectacular holiday events, live shows, great shopping, holiday special offers and 60 miles of beaches. New for this year is a special Black Friday/Cyber Monday promotion. CVB partners have been submitting great offers of up to 55% off and we’ll be spreading the word. Here are a few of the creative campaign elements.

Early Fall, The Stormy Tourist Season

Once again, the early fall tourist season along South Carolina’s Grand Strand, the coastal sections of Horry and Georgetown counties, was marred by at least one hurricane warning and evacuation. The average occupancy percentages (APO), as reported by Coastal Carolina University’s Clay Brittain Jr. Center for Resort Tourism, for hotels, condo-hotels, and campsites (HC-HCs) units rented nightly, and the estimated APO based on the percentage of units reserved for the vacation rental properties (VRPs) rented weekly, are shown in the table below.

Myrtle Beach has a new listing on the National Register of Historic Places! The Downtown Historic District was officially certified on Friday, October 18. It includes portions of Main Street, Eighth Avenue North, Ninth Avenue North, North Kings Highway, Broadway Street and North Oak Street. The description states:

Myrtle Beach bartenders will compete in a bartending challenge where each contestant will be paired up with one of Cocktail Artists’ award-winning mixologists as they compete for a grand prize. Also that night, Cocktail Artist will crown their National Champion in the brand’s 1st Annual Mix Off Competition.

A statewide poll found that nearly 75 percent of parents support the current school start-date (third Monday in August) or would even like to see it moved back later into August or September like many other states.
