MBACVB Reports Tourism Growth in 2019
A record 20.4 million visitors in the Myrtle Beach area generated $10.8 billion in expenditures in 2018, continuing a trend of year-over-year growth, and echoing the impact of the tourism industry reported by the South Carolina Parks, Recreation & Tourism yesterday during the South Carolina Governor’s Conference on Tourism & Travel.

The success of the Myrtle Beach area as a premiere beach destination is inspiring and it’s our partners who help make this success a reality each day. The Myrtle Beach area’s tourism industry continues to grow and sets new records each year. The numbers tell the story – in 2018, 20.4 million people visited the destination and generated $10.8 billion in expenditures, up 4% and 7% year over year respectively. While we won’t have 2019 numbers until spring 2020, our tax collections indicate strong year over year growth, including a 10% increase for TDF through October.

South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster, Agriculture Commissioner Hugh Weathers and SCPRT Director Duane Parrish named the participants for the 2020 South Carolina Chef Ambassador Program, including Chef Jamie Daskalis of Johnny D’s Waffles and Benedicts in Myrtle Beach. Chefs from across the state are nominated each year for the state’s program. Four were chosen for the quality of their provisions and their dedication to incorporating healthy, locally grown ingredients into their menus.
