Nearly 300,000 Passengers Traveled Through The Myrtle Beach International Airport in April 2023, Setting New Record For The Airport

MYR continues to set new records for overall passenger traffic, thanks to another busy spring travel season.

At MYR, total passenger traffic during April 2023, which includes both arriving and departing passengers, totaled 294,414 compared to 282,784 in April 2022, an overall increase of 4.1%. The number of people arriving on flights, or deplanements, totaled 147,731 compared to 143,761 in 2022.

“We're pleased to set another record for all-time passenger traffic at MYR during the month of April," said Judi Olmstead, Director of Airports. "The Grand Strand is a top destination for tourism in the U.S. and our continued growth patterns help demonstrate that the Grand Strand is no longer a 'summer only' destination. We look forward to welcoming even more guests to our slice of paradise this summer."

As the summer season approaches, MYR is anticipating even higher passenger traffic, with more flights and destinations being added to its schedule. Customers are encouraged to arrive a minimum of two hours prior to their scheduled departure time and to allow additional time when planning to park.

Airport staff are continuously working toward improvements to the passenger experience, in response to the rapidly growing demand for travel from MYR. The airport is currently undergoing a parking expansion project that will better serve our local population with the addition of 450+ long-term parking spaces and 50+ cell phone/waiting spaces. The project is expected to be completed by early fall.

Additionally, the airport recently unveiled renderings for its upcoming terminal expansion project, which will add 6 new gates to its existing facilities, for a total of 18, and includes new concessions, restrooms and passenger waiting areas. These improvements will help MYR to address the higher volume of passenger traffic and attract new air service options for guests.
