Saturday Nearing A Sellout At This Week's Myrtle Beach Classic

Tournament Continues to Gain Momentum Heading into Tournament Week

Myrtle Beach, S.C. (May 6 , 2024) – Golfers at the Myrtle Beach Classic may be playing before a sellout crowd on Saturday at the Dunes Golf and Beach Club, as the area’s first PGA TOUR event continues to gain momentum heading into tournament week (May 9-12). Fewer than 500 general admission tickets remain for Saturday’s third round, which includes a post-round concert by the popular country duo Thompson Square at 6 p.m. on the Ocean Lawn stage.

Saturday’s round at a PGA TOUR event is considered “moving day,” as the top 60 golfers and those tied for 60th place will jockey for position to contend for the title on Sunday and earn $720,000 and 300 Fed Ex points, as well as a spot in next week’s PGA Championship.

The limited supply of tickets for Saturday as well as tickets for Wednesday through Friday, and Sunday, can be purchased at www.myrtlebeachclassic.com. There are two extra events on Thursday, as the U.S. Army Golden Knights parachute team will perform at 5 p.m. and a concert with the Swingin’ Medallions will take place at 6 p.m. Both of the added events are free to Thursday ticketholders.

“Ticket sales have exceeded our expectations in year one,” said Darren Nelson, tournament director. “I knew we were in for something special when we had 1,300 volunteers registered on the first day. The “Golf Capital of the World” is ready to host its first PGA TOUR event.”

The field begins with 132 golfers, with a cut to the low 60 scorers and ties after 36 holes. Play will begin at roughly 7 a.m. each day and gates will open daily at 6:30 a.m. Public parking will be at 2400 Oak Street, the the former site of the Myrtle Beach Mall, where shuttle busses will run continuously throughout the day. The cost is $15 (credit or cash).

The Myrtle Beach Classic is a dual-field PGA TOUR event sponsored by Visit Myrtle Beach and managed by SPORTFIVE, a global event management company. The local event will be one of two stops in the Palmetto State for the PGA TOUR in 2024, joining with the RBC Heritage in April at Harbour Town Golf Links.

A Robert Trent Jones-designed course, the Dunes Club was incorporated in 1948. It was host to the season-ending Charles Schwab Cup Championship on PGA TOUR Champions from 1994 to 1999, with notables Raymond Floyd, Jim Colbert, Jay Sigel, Gil Morgan, Hale Irwin and Gary McCord claiming titles. Twenty-one years earlier, the Dunes Club was the site of PGA TOUR Q-School Finals in 1973, with Ben Crenshaw taking medalist honors.
