Record-Breaking Year for Myrtle Beach International Airport
Myrtle Beach, South Carolina (January 18, 2022) – Airport officials announced today that The Myrtle Beach International Airport (MYR) finished 2021 with a record-breaking 3,210,247 total passengers.
The total passengers traveling through MYR in 2021 (which includes both arriving and departing passengers) represents a 188% increase over 2020 and a 23% increase over 2019, with 2019 being MYR’s previous record year with 2,611,563 total passengers.
The past year brought many new opportunities to MYR and the region, most notably the addition of year-round service with Southwest Airlines as well as increased flight options with existing airline partners.
“This has been an incredible year for both the airport and our community as a whole,” said Scott Van Moppes, Director of Airports. “Our transition from the challenges and uncertainty of 2020 to the significant recovery of 2021 is a testament to the resilience of the Grand Strand and Horry County. I appreciate the team with Horry County Government, our partners at Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce, and of course, all of our hard-working airport employees that made this possible. I would also like to offer special thanks to the passengers that continue to travel through MYR—we appreciate your patronage and we look forward to serving you for years to come. As we look toward the future, the airport team is committed to continually improving both the customer experience and operational efficiency, and will always strive to make MYR the gold standard for airports around the nation.”
